Worship & Music
The music and worship arts ministry exists for the purpose of growing, developing, and maturing leaders in worship. These individuals, spanning all ages, are on the road to becoming more like Christ through the practice and presentation of music and the related fine arts. In this process, they are more equipped, through developed skills and abilities in music and the arts, to lead our congregation to encounter the greatness of God in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.
It is our desire to lead not out of stylistic preference or a focus on man-centered worship, but rather to give God the honor and praise He deserves. He is a great God and he deserves GREAT praise. He is the object and subject of our worship.

AUGUST KICK-OFF ACTIVITIES...
Adult Choir - "Fall of Fifty Faithful"
Faith of Fifty Faithful - that is our adult choir enrollment campaign for this fall season of ministry. Our vision is to see 50 faithful servant singers leading worship every week in our Sunday morning services. We have the full potential to do this, and you can be apart of helping us achieve this God-sized task. God has given us an opportunity for “such a time as this,” and we need to take this opportunity and run with it. My challenge is this: Have each choir member on roll singing regularly and each member bringing a guest (someone who has never joined choir). Join us in this task. I believe with my whole heart that it can be done. Do you? I also believe that God will pour out his blessings on us if we are faithful with what he has given us
BASICS Student Choir - We are in full swing...come join us!
SUNDAY rehearsals for BASICS started this past week. We are looking forward to a great year. Would you come and join us? Send your students to be apart of this exciting ministry. Rehearsals are from 4:30-6:00 pm in the choir room. There is NO student discipleship following choir this Fall.
Friendship Choir
Rehearsals resume on Wednesday, September 21 from 11:00-11:45 in the choir room. All median and senior adults are welcome to attend.
Technical Ministry
Are you interested in being apart of the technical ministry at FBC Picayune? We need volunteers to help with the worship service webcast and special events. Volunteers can be placed on a rotation schedule so they are not required every week. If you have any questions, please contact Jonathan Rodgers at jonathanr@fbcpic.net or call the church office at 601-798-4886.

Adult Choir
The adult choir at FBC Picayune exits primarily to lead the church congregation in worship on a weekly basis. They are the flagship of the music ministry. Comprised of individuals both young and old, members devote themselves to weekly rehearsals, weekly service leading, producing special events, and most of all being fully-equipped and trained worship leaders.
They set the example for our church and the entire music ministry of what it means to worship the Lord in Spirit and Truth.
BASICS Student Choir
“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, individuals conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” I Timothy 4:12
BASICS Student Choir is junior high and high school students united to share new life in Christ through music and the arts.
Through regular participation and leadership in worship and related ministry events throughout the year, BASICS student choir exists to provide 7th-12th grade students with an opportunity to discover their various abilities in the creative arts. We believe that all individuals are made in God’s image, and God, who is a distinctively creative God (as evident in his creation) has also given us creative abilities. While having its roots as a singing ensemble, members of BASICS will also have opportunities to learn skills in other areas of the fine arts. Students meet weekly in rehearsals to learn music and prepare for leading worship in church, singing/ministering through community outreach, and going on a week long summer choir mission tour. Membership is open to all 7th-12th grade students.
Preschool and Children's Choirs
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” Deuteronomy 6:4-7
The famed children’s music expert, Helen Kemp, is known for the following: “Body, Mind, Spirit, and Voice. It takes the whole person to sing and rejoice.”
By combining music, the creative arts, and solid biblical truth, the goal of the children’s music ministry at FBCP is to teach children to love the Lord with their heart, soul, mind, strength, and voice. The idea is that worship involves the entire person.
Children have an opportunity to find their voice, learn how to use it to worship God, and learn that true worship is more than music...it’s a lifestyle.
Friendship Choir
Open to Senior Adults, age 60 and up, the Friendship Choir is a great place to experience friendship and community with fellow believers in Christ. Music is very accessible for senior adults and reflects their background and "musical language." It is never too late in life to sing praises to the Lord. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 11:00-11:45 in the choir room.
Celebration Ringers
The handbell choir at First Baptist Picayune has consistently grown over time from two octaves several decades ago to now five octaves of handbells. They have a unique instrumental music ministry that the Lord uses to speak to individuals in a very special way. They perform in services throughout the year and have several opportunities to ring during the Advent and Christmas season, including the Hanging of the Green service, Christmas Pageant, and Christmas worship services. Participation in the handbell choir requires an interview with the director and decent musical reading ability. It is open to students and adults. Rehearsals are Wednesday from 4:30-5:20 in room 200.
Instrumental Music Ministry
Instrumentalists are needed to play in Sunday worship services and special programs on a regular to semi-regular basis. Guitar, drums, percussion, string, and wind instruments are all welcome. If you play an instrument and would like to participate in a Sunday service, please contact Jonathan Rodgers, minister of music, at jonathanr@fbcpic.net or 601-798-4886. An interview/audition is the only preqrequisite to being able to play in a service.
Ensemble Ministry
Ensembles and vocal teams are selected and assembled on an "as needed" basis. They meet for 6-8 weeks and then sing in a worship service. To be considered for an ensemble, a person must be a regular-attending member of the adult choir. A brief vocal audition is also required. (Be prepared to sing "My Country 'Tis of Thee.") If you have any questions or would like to schedule an audition, please contact Jonathan Rodgers at jonathanr@fbcpic.net or 601-798-4886.
Special Events
Throughout the year the music and worship arts ministry provides special opportunities of worship including the Awesome August Revival Series, Fall Music Ministry Banquet, Hanging of the Green service, Christmas Pageant, Keyboard Carols, Winter Worship Event, and Spring Children’s Musical.
